Patrician 3 was the best in mechanics, pat 4 a step down, port royale 3, different theme politics was a more impactful, RoV, the goods and badsPatrician 4:The Good:Pat 4 let you research and upgrade your production, which made it much more interesting, its trade route window interface was the least annoying, It also let you found cities, which was very fun (even though it might have killed your PC) it was a very satisfying trading simulator/city building experience. Inland cities were very enjoyable. The Bad:Pirates were very hard to wipe out, required you to become a patrician rank (which was end game and very hard to reach) and ge approval from the Hanseatic league. Sea combat was boring, you had 3 ships early game, a Cog, Crayer, or sinika.
Later game you got a Caravel, Holk (fatter armed version of the cog). Ship combat was boring, basic strategy was to use anyship + wind, dodge and shoot dodge and shoot removing sails. The Neutral:Pat 4 at face value looked easy, but if you played trying to reach alderman rank, good luck, it was very very hard past the traveling merchant rank. Weather impacted much more on production, and made contingency planning something much more immersive.Port Royale 3The Good:The game divided the game into 4 factions vying over control in the carribean. There was better variety in ship mechanics, and combat felt more immersive. Cities were easier to build and plan. The campaign was much more fun, and the old man narator made the game much more enjoyable. The city music was enjoyable to experience. The Bad:The game felt unpolished even after launch, example: deleting a farm bought from npc's, farms at the start take 2 tiles fist for the farm house model and the second for the crop.
The game only deletes the tile with the house model, the second crop is bugged and will remain there for no apparent reason.EVENT DRIVEN GRAPHICS ON TOWNS LAGGED THE GAME TO HALF BROKEN. Example drought, you enter a city being effected, suddenly your whole screen turns into a sand storm of particles, graphics options don't let you to control to turn that on or off.You could spam infinite convoys of random trading routes and always profited, imbalancing the game drastically.without DLC, you could never build ships (camp the turk islands for british ship of the lines)The Neutral, the game had a very good taste in locations, but limited city construction limited by a plot system. Gambling was an option in the game, but that was a joke. I could buy 200 units of brics in curoceo and sell them in port royale at premium of 5k profit, gambling rewards never go past 1.5k. This was understandable because the game is about understanding how to build trade systems and resimulate olden time naval warfare (for the better not too realistic).Note: I may have a large quantity for bads in Port Royale, but honestly Its still a Good game and fun to play.Rise of Venice. 58 hours in,This is my first reaction:Oh Cool they have a good campaign broken into different acts. The Good:This game removes many problems that faced Port Royale 3, such as the full screen city windows covered in sandy garbage. The combat was smooth, relevant, and clean.the bad: meh too much to type want to go back playing.
Look for it yourself.
